چکیده

The reports on familial Down's syndrome (mongolism) date in the medical literature from the 20th years of this century. Familial Down's syndrome is now well-described event but relatively rare. Penrose states that pairs of affected sibs appear about once for every 100 single cases of mongolism collected at random (quoted by Soltan et al. 1964). About two-thirds of the mongoloids are close relations and one third of the cases is of more distant relationship. Owing to the high incidence of Down's syndrome in the general population, it is possible to speak about random coincidence in some cases in the latter group (Zellweger 1964). For a short time the prevailing opinion was that translocation Down's syndrome is the most common cause of familial

Down's syndrome with a familial D/D reciprocal translocation and a G/G chromosome.

The presence of a translocation between two chromosomes in the I3-I5 (D) group does not usually give rise to any phenotypical abnormality and may be relatively common in the population (Hamerton, Giannelli, and Carter, I963). Such translocations have, however, been reported in a patient with XXY Klinefelter's syndrome (Lejeune, Turpin, and DeCourt, i960), and Hamerton et al. (I963) describe a f...

Parental mosaicism in de novo translocation (21q21q) Down's syndrome.

Parental mosaicism for t(21q21q) has been found in six out of 11 families in which recurrence of a de novo 2lq2lq translocation Down's syndrome was observed. 1-3 Therefore, Hall' proposed that in the parents of children with de novo 21q21q Down's syndrome the analysis of additional cells and also skin fibroblasts studies should be considered for the detection of cryptic mosaicism. Support for t...

Simultaneous Occurrence of Turner Syndrome and Robertsonian Translocation in a Girl with Short Stature: A Case Report

Short stature is an important clinical feature of Turner syndrome (TS). In this report, a girl with short stature suspected to have Turner syndrome underwent cytogenetic analysis, which confirmd Turner syndrome by observing sex chromosomal monosomy using the karyotype test. In addition to Turner syndrome, Robertsonian (ROB) translocation t(13;14) was detected. As recommended by a genetic counse...

Sibship (21q21q) translocation Down's syndrome with maternal transmission.

A family is reported with eight cases of Down's syndrome and four abortions in a sibship. The cytogenetic studies showed that the mother was a (21q21q) translocation carrier. Two living children were examined and were found to be cases of Down's syndrome with a (21q21q) translocation. Familial Down's syndrome is a relatively rare finding (Hamerton, 1971) and may be due to an inherited transloca...
